Filmmakers and Producers

Edgar Garcia Chavez

I’m a filmmaker that explores diversity and acceptance in our contemporary society as a means to encourage discussion and debate. I have a master in architecture from the University of New Mexico. I’ve been producing visual art (paintings, drawings, collages, etc) for over 20 years. I love how images can convey very strong messages and ideas without written explanations. Six years ago, I started creating film in 16mm and Super8 and I have been experimenting with film and digital media since then.

My work dwells in the intersection of visual media and performance art, I try to highlight and tell stories that mainstream media fails to show. Diversity and acceptance are key goals in my practice. Hopefully my work opens the door for dialogue and debate.

TWN acknowledges that in New York we are on the unceded territory of the Lenni Lenape, Canarsie, Shinecock, and Munsee peoples and challenges the harm that continues to be inflicted upon Indigenous and People of Color communities here and abroad, which is why we all need to be part of the struggle for rights, equality and justice.
