(NAVAL BASE POINT LOMA, California)
Friends and family of Sailors aboard the Los Angeles-class, fast attack submarine USS Jefferson City (SSN 759) welcomed home Jeff City’s crew April 14 following a six-month deployment to the 5th Fleet area of responsibility and Western Pacific.

The deployment supported the Chief of Naval Operations’ Maritime Strategy, which includes maritime security, forward presence, sea control, and power projection.

During the deployment, which covered more than 40,000 nautical miles, Jefferson City executed missions critical to national security, as well as participated in several U.S. and multinational naval exercises.  The ship’s port visits included Japan, Bahrain and Singapore.

Jefferson City Sailors participated in two community relation projects during the deployment. At the RIA Center in Bahrain, which helps kids with learning and communication difficulties, Jefferson City Sailors assisted the children in various activities and therapies during the day, including music and movement classes, brain gym, and communication and classroom activities.  At Singapore’s Armenian Church of St. Gregory the Illuminator, Jefferson City Sailors (including the Commanding Officer and Chief of the Boat) worked to complete an extensive cleaning list in and around the historic church.

Cmdr. Ed Anderson, commanding officer of Jefferson City is very proud of his crew and their accomplishments, “What an honor it is to take this fantastic, motivated crew on such a long journey and succeed in so many facets of submarine operations,” he said.  “I am exceptionally proud of their personal and collective performance, especially the number of advancements in rate during this one promotion period.  That is a strong testament to the commitment the entire crew demonstrates daily to exceptional knowledge of their professional ratings, which is so often reflected in the flawless performance of the ship,” he continued.

Jefferson City, the Navy's 31st Los Angeles-class fast attack submarine, was commissioned February 29, 1992. Displacing more than 6,900 tons, Jefferson City is home to nearly 140 Sailors.
