(NAVAL BASE POINT LOMA, CA.) – Commander, Submarine Squadron 11, Capt. Brett Genoble, presented USS Asheville (SSN 758), a Los-Angeles-class fast attack submarine, with the squadron's 2009 Damage Control Excellence Award Feb 2.
Machinist's Mate Petty Officer 1st Class Darlon Flint, the boat's Damage Control Petty Officer, accepted the award from Capt. Genoble. Flint attributes the recognition to his shipmates' dedication, "All of our guys work hard and it's nice to be recognized for this award," said Flint.
Asheville's Chief of the Boat said, "I am incredibly proud of my crew's efforts in the area of Damage Control. Although their achievement was spearheaded by the diligent work of Petty Officer Flint, the entire crew worked hard to attain this distinction."
The boat's commanding officer echoed this sentiment. Commanding Officer Cmdr. Jerry Miranda said, "I feel really good about my crew receiving recognition for their hard work. We've got a fantastic team that works well together, and I know that we will continue to see great things from them."
