(NAVAL BASE KITSAP-BANGOR, Wash.)
- USS Henry M. Jackson (SSBN 730) (Blue) said farewell to their commanding officer, Cmdr. Lyle Hoag, during a change of command ceremony at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor, July 8.

With the traditional reading of orders and a goodbye to the Sailors he commanded, Hoag turned over his boat and crew to Cmdr. Eugene Nemeth.

During Hoag’s command the boat and crew completed numerous inspections and four strategic deterrent patrols.

“Without a doubt, the best part about being commanding officer was being able to work with the fine officers and enlisted men,” said Hoag.  “The fast pace of day-to-day operations where each event is another opportunity for you and your men to succeed has made my time go by faster than I could ever have imagined.”

Chief of the Boat, Master Chief Machinist Mate James Coffin, praised Hoag’s leadership and ability to push the boat and crew to excellence in all areas.
“Cmdr. Hoag was an honest and fair commanding officer,” said Coffin.  “He has been a great coach for the team.”

Nemeth is prepared for the challenges that come with being commanding officer of a ballistic missile submarine, and looks forward to working with the crew.

"I am looking forward to taking the ‘Defender of Freedom’ to sea and leading the nation's best and brightest through a variety of dynamic and challenging submarine operations in support of the defense of our fine country,” said Nemeth.  “I expect the crew to continue with their quest for excellence, strive to achieve their professional and personal goals, and emphatically support a climate where shipmates help each other out and keep each other safe.”

Hoag’s next assignment will be on the Nuclear Command and Control Support Staff in Falls Church, Va.
