Submarine USS Hampton Returns from Deployment

(NAVAL BASE POINT LOMA, Calif.) – Friends and families of Sailors aboard Los Angeles-class, fast-attack submarine USS Hampton (SSN 767) welcomed home Hampton's crew June 8 following a six-month deployment to the Middle East and Western Pacific.

The deployment supported the Chief of Naval Operations' Maritime Strategy, which includes maritime security, forward presence, sea control, and power projection.

During the deployment, which covered more than 40,000 nautical miles, Hampton executed missions critical to national security as well as participated in U.S. and multinational naval exercises. The ship's port visits included Saipan, Bahrain, Dubai, and Hong Kong.

Hampton, in conjunction with USS Frank Cable (AS 40), hosted Hong Kong-based media aboard for an in port visit, a first for a U.S. submarine. The ships also hosted tours for consulate personnel. As part of a community relations project, Hampton Sailors visited Hong Chi Pinehill Village in Hong Kong and assisted the farmstead in weeding and grass cutting.

Hampton's Commanding Officer, Cmdr. Tony Lott, is very proud of his crew and their accomplishments. "I was continuously impressed at the professionalism, motivation, and attitude of the crew's performance throughout this deployment," he said. "Their ability to overcome adversity and perform a wide range of submarine missions was a testament to the training they received as part of their extensive pre-deployment training cycle and the deck plate leadership on board Hampton."

Hampton was commissioned November 6, 1993. Measuring more than 360 feet long and displacing more than 6,900 tons, Hampton has a crew of nearly 140 Sailors. Hampton is capable of supporting various missions, including anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface ship warfare, strike, surveillance, and reconnaissance. She is one of six Los Angeles-class submarines homeported in San Diego.
