Captain James Childs
COMMANDER, SUBMARINE SQUADRON ONE

CAPT Childs is a native of Littleton, NH and a 1987 Graduate of the US Naval Academy.  He is also a 2000 graduate of the US Naval War College.

CAPT Childs completed sea tours on four different submarines, USS SALT LAKE CITY (SSN 716) in San Diego, CA from Oct 1988 to July 1991, USS PHOENIX (SSN 702) in Norfolk, VA, as the Combat Systems Officer and Navigator/Operations Officer, from January 1994 to July 1997, USS ALABAMA (SSBN 731)(B) in Silverdale, WA, as Executive Officer, from October 2000 to July 2002, and USS AUGUSTA (SSN 710) in Groton, CT, as Commanding Officer, from October 2005 to January 2008. 

His shore tours include, Aide and Flag LT to Commander, Submarine Group FIVE in San Diego, CA, Submarine Post-Department Head Detailer in Washington, DC and Millington, TN, Submarine Prospective Executive Officer Instructor in Groton, CT, and Deputy Commander for Training at Commander, Submarine Development Squadron FIVE in Silverdale, WA.  CAPT Childs most recently served as the Division Chief for Eastern Europe and Eurasia Political Military Affairs in the J-5 Directorate of the Joint Staff in Washington, DC.
