CDR Christopher Buziak
COMMANDING OFFICER
USS CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI (SSN 705)
CDR Buziak was born in Seoul South Korea and raised in San Antonio, Texas. He received a Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering and a commission in the United States Navy through the NROTC program from Rice University in 1993.
After completion of initial nuclear power and submarine officer training, CDR Buziak reported aboard USS ALBANY (SSN 753) home ported out of Norfolk, Virginia. While aboard, he deployed to the Northern Atlantic, Mediterranean Ocean and Arabian Gulf. He reported in April 2001 aboard USS OLYMPIA (SSN 717) homeported in Pearl Harbor Hawaii. CDR Buziak deployed twice, first as Combat Systems Officer then as Navigator and Operations Officer. While attached, the ship was awarded the Navy Unit Commendation and two Battle Efficiency Awards for 2001 and 2003. He completed Submarine Command Course in February 2007 and reported as Executive Officer in USS FLORIDA (SSGN 728)(BLUE) in May 2007. While attached to FLORIDA, the ship completed the first SSGN multiple Tactical Tomahawk missile salvo, first submarine mid-flight retarget of a Tactical Tomahawk missile and first training mine field penetration by a SSGN class submarine. While aboard, the ship completed the first ever Atlantic SSGN deployment to the Arabian Gulf and first forward deployed crew exchange in Diego Garcia. The ship was also awarded the Battle Efficiency E, Engineering E, Navigation N and Supply S for 2007 and 2008. CDR Buziak relieved as Commanding Officer USS City of Corpus Christi in July 2011.
While ashore, CDR Buziak attended the Naval Post Graduate School from August 1998 to September 2000 and received a Masters of Science with distinction in Modeling Virtual Environments, and Simulation. Post Department Head, CDR Buziak was assigned to COMSUBRON SEVEN as Squadron Operations Officer in March 2004. While attached to COMSUBRON SEVEN, he served as Submarine Element Coordinator for Expeditionary Strike Group FIVE. In December 2004, he was selected to serve as Aide-de-Camp for Commander, US Pacific Command and served as Aide-de-Camp until December 2006 completing Joint Duty Service in the process. After serving as Executive Officer, CDR Buziak served as OPNAV N133D, the Nuclear Enlisted Community Program Manager from October 2008 to September 2009. He is Joint Service Officer Qualified.
CDR Buziak’s distinctions include selection as a Naval Astronaut Candidate in 1999, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (6 awards), Navy Achievement Medal and other various unit awards and commendations. He is married to the former Cristy Brown of San Antonio Texas. They have three children: Melanie, Will and Michael.
