CDR Steven M. Harrison

Commander Harrison grew up in Roanoke, Virginia and graduated magna cum laude from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. After receiving his commission from Officer Candidate School in October 1990, he attended Nuclear Power School in Orlando, Florida and Prototype Training in Charleston, South Carolina.
His first sea duty was in Charleston, South Carolina as a division officer in USS JOHN C. CALHOUN (SSBN 630) (BLUE), where he completed two strategic deterrent patrols followed by a decommissioning in Bremerton, Washington in September 1993. He then served in USS CHEYENNE (SSN 773) on the commissioning crew in Newport News, Virginia from April 1994 until July 1996. Commander Harrison was next assigned to Naval Reserve Officer Training Unit, The Ohio State University, as Associate Professor of Naval Science until August 1998. While at Ohio State he earned a Master of Science Degree in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering.
In February 1999, Commander Harrison reported to USS TUCSON (SSN 770) in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii as Engineer Officer. During his tour, TUCSON completed one Western Pacific and two Eastern Pacific deployments and was twice awarded the Battle Efficiency “E”. Following this tour, he was assigned to the Personnel Exchange Program at the Maritime Warfare Centre in Portsmouth, England to work with the United Kingdom Royal Navy in submarine tactics development.
Commander Harrison served as Executive Officer in USS ASHEVILLE (SSN 758) in San Diego, California from April 2004 to December 2005, during which the crew completed a deployment to the Western Pacific. His most recent assignment was as Executive Assistant to the Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff, U.S. Pacific Fleet, from February 2006 to December 2007.
