CDR Michael J. Boone

Commander Michael Boone, a native of Hugo, Oklahoma, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in May 1993 with a Bachelor of Science in Oceanography.  Following initial nuclear power training and the Submarine Officer Basic Course, CDR Boone reported to USS NEW YORK CITY (SSN 696) in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.  During his tour, NEW YORK CITY conducted a Western Pacific and Eastern Pacific deployment.  Following NEW YORK CITY’s decommissioning in 1998, CDR Boone completed two strategic deterrent patrols onboard USS MAINE (SSBN 741) (BLUE). 

Following graduation from the Submarine Officer Advanced Course, CDR Boone served as the Engineer Officer onboard USS ALEXANDRIA (SSN 757) from September 2001 to December 2004.  During his tour ALEXANDRIA completed a Depot Modernization Period, circumnavigated the globe via the Arctic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea during a Western Pacific deployment and became the first U.S. nuclear powered vessel to visit India.  He then served as the Executive Officer onboard USS AUGUSTA (SSN 710) from April 2007 to December 2008 completing her final deployment.

Commander Boone attended the Naval Postgraduate School where he received his Masters in Science in Leadership and Human Resource Development in 1999.  He then served as the 11th Company Officer at the United States Naval Academy from May 1999 to May 2001.

Additional shore assignments included a tour on the staff of Commander, U.S. Strategic Command at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska from January 2005 to December 2006 and as the Director, Undersea Warfare Systems for the Deputy Undersecretary for the Navy for Ship Programs from December 2008 to March 2009.

Commander Boone is entitled to wear the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (six awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and various other unit and campaign awards.
