Women and Men Are Good Dancers

"Women and Men Are Good Dancers," is a translation from the Cree language of an intertribal pow wow song. Bowman was inspired to create this tape by the "nizhoni" (Dine) or "it is beautiful" of the Plains song and dance, in particular the Grass Dance. Working with dancers from different traditions she uses a combination of video document that both acknowledges and exceeds the boundaries of ethnography and conventional performance documentation.

TWN acknowledges that in New York we are on the unceded territory of the Lenni Lenape, Canarsie, Shinecock, and Munsee peoples and challenges the harm that continues to be inflicted upon Indigenous and People of Color communities here and abroad, which is why we all need to be part of the struggle for rights, equality and justice.
