Yesterday's Dreams

Sueños de ayer
Like a Frida Kahlo painting, this hauntingly lyrical film is full of symbolism at once extremely personal and universal. A young woman in a large, empty house in the countryside attempts to re-envision her childhood. Her journey grows increasingly surreal as she witnesses her conception, gestation and birth and replays disjointed memories of a traumatic, painful violation. Pastel, impressionistic color sequences mixed with black and white footage and a powerfully subtle sound track create a metaphor for Chile's collective memory of its painful past.
